Shingles, siding and stucco on Burlingame's older homes
Burlingame's General Plan says the city's 1910s and 1920s Craftsman and vernacular homes were typically built of wood shingles, wood siding, stucco or a combination of these. Each takes its own prep: shingles and siding need loose paint scraped and bare wood primed, stucco needs cracks filled, and the line where two materials meet needs fresh caulk.
Almost 30% of Burlingame's housing units date to 1939 or earlier, so most exteriors here have old paint under the new. On homes built before 1978, federal lead rules apply to paid scraping and sanding, which is why we ask the build year first. Burlingame needs no permit for painting.

What customers say
Copied word for word from Thumbtack, typos included.
I hired Junior and his team to install Govee Pro outdoor lights with tracks along my roofline, which has a lot of tricky angles and turns. They did an incredible job — everything looks clean, professional, and aligned. Junior showed up on time, worked efficiently, and even helped with a few extra repairs around the house. I’m thrilled with the results and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him for any home improvement or maintenance work.
J&J and Junior and crew provides great Handyman services and support especially for seniors that need a little excellent home maintenance for a reasonable price. Junior and crew repaired and caulked my upstairs shower pan to its shower wall and helped mme clean up my roof deck by cleaning up leafe debris. They were prompt and knowledgeable and honest about their estimates to complete the maintenance. Highly recommended for repair and fixing those tough maintenance jobs you don’t have the time or expertise to finish.

Value for money and flexible to work with. Would definitely hire them again, for all jobs around the house.

Yes. Burlingame is about 5 road miles from our base in San Bruno, roughly 10 minutes without traffic. We work all over town, from Burlingame Park to Mills Estates.
Who issues permits in Burlingame?
The City of Burlingame Building Division. Repairs and like-for-like replacements often don't need a permit; layout changes, new plumbing or new electrical usually do. When one is needed, the job is contracted through our licensed partner Bay Builder Inc.
When can noisy work happen in Burlingame?
Work that needs a permit is limited to 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays, with none on Sundays or City holidays without written approval. We schedule noisy work inside those hours.
Do you prep the outside before painting?
Always. Washing, scraping loose paint, fixing cracks and soft trim, caulking and priming bare spots come before the first coat, and they're in the estimate.
